Corfu

The second largest of the Ionian islands, Corfu is undeniably picturesque, with a charming Old Town, verdant subtropical forests and white sandy beaches. Its tumultuous history includes periods under Byzantine, Venetian, French and British rule (all of which have left their mark on the island’s architecture), before being united with Greece in 1864.

Cruise ships dock at the Neo Limani, a spacious new port that also serves ferries traveling to the Greek mainland, Italy and Albania. It features a duty-free shop and tourist information desks where you can grab a map of the island.

Spend time exploring the UNESCO World Heritage-listed streets of Corfu Town, which boasts the largest public square in the Balkans. Admire its historic Venetian fortresses and the grand Palace of St. Michael and St. George as you wander its winding, medieval streets, then feast on local fare in one of the lively restaurants. Don’t miss a visit to the Asian Art Museum, which is housed in a former palace, or the Byzantine Museum within the stunning Church of Antivouniotissa.

If time allows, venture further afield to discover the lush interior of Corfu, swathed in fragrant pine forests and olive groves. Traditional rural villages dot the landscape and ignite with religious festivals over the summer months.

A short drive along the coast from Corfu Town takes you to the village of Kanoni where you can admire the views of Pondikonisi (Mouse Island) and Vlaherna Island. Walk along the causeway to explore the white Venetian monastery of Panagia Vlahernon, then jump aboard a boat to visit the tiny Byzantine chapel on Mouse Island.

Travel to the north coast of Corfu to visit the 18th-century Paleokastritsa Monastery whose pastel-colored buildings boast a spectacular cliff top setting overlooking the Ionian Sea. If you want to stretch your legs, hike along a section of the Corfu Trail that follows the perimeter of the island and affords stunning views.

Our Corfu shore excursions are led by highly knowledgeable guides who will share their love for this charming island and help you see as much as possible. If you can’t find the Corfu shore excursion you are looking for here, please contact us directly so we can customize an itinerary for you.
