Join us for an action-packed day trip, exploring Koh Samui’s most spectacular sights, that include beautiful nature sanctuaries and hidden cultural gems.
This full day adventure begins with a pick up from your port of call in our air conditioned minivan. Your first destination is the famed rock formations of Hin Ta and Hin Yai (which translate as “grandpa†and “grandmaâ€). Not only are the views along this coastline spectacular, but there is a fascinating local legend as to how they were formed.
Your guide will then take you to watch monkeys harvesting coconuts at the Samui Monkey Theater. Coconuts have long been an important industry in Koh Samui and the monkeys are some of the fastest and most skilled workers around!
Your Koh Samui adventure then continues on a guided elephant trek through the tropical landscapes of this beautiful island. Riding on elephant-back offers you an elevated view of your surroundings, and getting up-close to these gentle giants is an experience in itself.
After your elephant ride, your guide will lead you through the forest to a stunning waterfall where you can have a refreshing swim in its small pool, before getting ready for the real adventure of the day - a thrilling 4WD tour into the rugged inland mountains.
Exploring off-the-beaten path dirt tracks, we will take you to five different viewpoints where you can take in the spectacular views across Koh Samui. Your guide will also show you the secret Buddha magic garden - an unusual collection of statues within the lush jungle surrounds that was created by an old fruit farmer, Nim Thongsuk, in 1976. The gardens are cool and peaceful, shaded by thick jungle foliage, and have a small waterfall and trickling stream flowing through.
You will then visit a Buddhist temple where a local monk, known as Luang Pho Daeng, has been mummified in a glass coffin, with his legs still folded in the “lotus†position. Despite passing away more than 25 years ago, his body remains incredibly well preserved, and the current monks place sunglasses over his empty eye sockets so as not to scare visiting tourists!
After building up a health appetite, you will stop at a mountain-top restaurant for a delicious Thai-style lunch, before continuing on to a local rubber plantation. Here you will see how rubber latex is harvested from trees and be able to sample some of the local, seasonal tropical fruits. While some may be familiar, others are rarely found outside of the region, and tasting these new flavors is all part of experiencing Thailand.
Your 4WD adventure will then head back down the mountain to the Big Buddha Temple, which sits majestically on a small rocky island off the northeastern corner of Koh Samui. Here you can watch as devotees come to make offerings of fruit and flowers, as well as light incense at the base of its towering Buddha statue.
As the sun slowly sinks towards the horizon, your Koh Samui adventure comes to an end as you return to your port of call. This day trip will give you a taste of why Koh Samui lures so many visitors every year, with many returning to this enchanted island again and again.
